Vocational Training Centre at Oberlin House
In 1991 the Vocational Training at Oberlin House charitable society was founded. The institution providing funding is the Association Oberlin House, which for over 100 years has been engaged in providing qualifications for physically and mentally disabled youth, mainly in the traditional crafts such as wood work, metal work and orthopaedic technology.
The Federal Ministry for Labour and Social Order, the Federal Job Agency and the Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Women in Brandenburg have made the creation of the Vocational Training Centre in Potsdam possible, which can take over 650 students for vocational training and pre-job training including 400 students residentially. The costs of the vocational training and the pre-vocational training is covered by the Federal Job Centre and other funding institutions. The specialised vocational training is partly funded through the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sport in Brandenburg.
We are training youth, that because of the nature and depth of their disability need the specialised aid of the Vocational Training Centre for their professional and social integration. These are young people with physical, learning and multiple disabilities as well as chronic illnesses, such as allergies, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, epilepsy, nutritional and metabolic illnesses, spastic paralysis, neuromuscular illnesses, the effects of accidents, etc.
